If you watched the Germany/Brazil futbol match yesterday, you saw a beating of epic proportions.
If you rode last night, you saw me ride much like Brazil played.
It was bad.
Didn't drink enough. Didn't eat enough. Felt bad when I left. Felt worse when I got home.
Not much more to say about it...
Also got into a discussion about carbon wheels last night. It's quite amusing to me that Zipp owners seem to think that their wheels are so far superior to everything else. I think it's justification for them spending that much money for wheels.
I've spent some quality time with Zipp 404 FC wheels. Yeah, they're fast. So were my boat anchor Mavic Carbones, and so are my current Williams wheels. Seems like Reynolds, Boyd, ROL, and pretty much everyone else on Earth makes fast carbon wheels too.
And while we're talking about "fast", let's talk about the fact that high-profile carbon wheels aren't "fast" until certain speeds are achieved, and the aero comes into play. At 16mph, a 50-60mm deep wheel is just pushing/pulling around a heavier hoop. Inertia and all that...
Marketing gladly omits that point from add copy.
The brutal truth? For us "normals", there MIGHT be a 2-3% difference in ALL of these wheels.
Is that 2-3% worth spending $2000 more for Zipps. Nope...not for me...
Short entry today...no pictures. It's the cobbled stage of the Tour, and Froome has already crashed and dropped out. Shit gettin' real...
See ya...
